Blood Sugar Imbalances and Hypoglycemia
Blood sugar imbalance are now reaching epidemic proportions in this country. As hard as it may be to hear this, blood sugar problems, hypoglycemia and diabetes, are primarily self caused. These conditions are primarily caused by what you eat. You do this to yourself. Of course this is good news and bad new. The bad news first. Your eating habits create the major cause of all blood sugar irregularities. The good news, since you are in charge of what you eat, you can have a major influence on your blood sugar by what you eat.
Americans, by their poor diets, are self inducing hypoglycemia and diabetes. Both conditions are on the rise and promise to become much worse in the coming decades. The primary cause of these health disasters is the overconsumption of high glycemic carbohydrates. Too much sugar! And to be clear you must realize that breakfast cereal, oatmeal, pasta, breads, cakes , cookies, crackers, chips and other such products are sugar. That is the body breaks each of these foods down into sugar. Not only does it break down into sugar, it does it much more rapidly then the body is properly equipped to handle.
Rapid breakdown of high glycemic carbohydrates (sugar) leads to a rapid rise in blood sugar and then, once the body's resources have been depleted, to a rapid decline. This process of the rise and fall of blood sugar happening on a daily basis for years leads to the deterioration and exhaustion of the pancreas, the liver and the adrenal glands. Left unchecked this process leads to hypoglycemia, diabetes and adrenal exhaustion. A very sad state of affairs. All preventable by eating a proper diet.
This raises two questions. One, what is a proper diet. Two, if you already have one of these conditions what do you do to recover.
First, what is a proper diet. For this I refer you to my colleagues, Dr's. Rain and Gary Klepper. They wrote a very useful article on the Paleo Diet. Although we will never have everybody agree on what a proper diet is for humans, we have found clinically that the Paleo Diet forms the basis of a healthy way to eat for most of us. Please click on the link above to read this article.
Secondly, what do you do if you are already experiencing hypoglycemia or diabetes. Well, the first thing is to look at your diet and stop adding fuel to the fire. Second is to begin to replenish and restore organ reserve so as to heal the body. Although many organs can be involved in this, the primary areas to look at are adrenal function and adrenal support nutrients; liver detox and strengthening; and finnaly pancreatic detox and support.
Healing from hypoglycemia is usually very doable. Healing from diabetes (Type II) is more difficult. In either case if you need assistance, Ask Dr. Steve.

Adrenal Stress Index

|
Adrenal Stress Index
The test is non-invasive & can be performed wherever you are.
Saliva is collected under real life conditions. There are no stressful blood draws and no gallon sized urine containers to carry around for 24 hours.
With blood and urine testing, a number of borderline adrenal conditions are missed due to lack of sensitivity. This is not the case with the ASI because samples are taken within one circadian cycle and the more definitive free fraction is measured.
The ASI is an in-depth test, such that options for treatment are expanded by 400-500% over serum and urine test results.
Note: The ASI was invented and introduced by Diagnos-Techs, Inc. in 1989. All other panels offered on the market are copies..

Iodine Loading Test

|
Iodine Loading Test
The Iodine Loading test is a measurement of whole body sufficiency for iodine. 50mg of Iodine/Iodide supplement (IodoralÆ) is provided with the kit and is ingested (after the spot test) and a 24 hour collection is started at the next void. From the 50mg ingested for the loading test, the LOADING EXCRETION results will show how many milligrams of Iodide are excreted, and what percentage of the 50mg ingested, is excreted.
Kit includes all collection materials and the means to ship the specimen to the lab free of charge. Full collection instructions are included. Results are provided within 10-15 days from the time the test was received at the lab.

Neurotransmitter Tests

Neurotransmitter Tests by NeuroScience
Medical research has established a definite link between neurotransmitters and a number of conditions. It has been concluded that deficient or excessive neurotransmitter levels may be at the root of many of these conditions. Therefore, the ability to assess the levels of various neurotransmitters offers health care providers a useful tool in addressing neurotransmitter-related conditions.
As such, NeuroScience has developed a comprehensive line of neuroendocrine laboratory test profiles to assist healthcare providers in selecting the parameters best suited for each patient. Urinary neurotransmitter and salivary hormone testing is not diagnostic for any particular condition or disease, however testing can identify one or more biochemical imbalances that maybe playing a role in various conditions.

Hormone Tests

|
Hormone Tests
We offer comprehensive testing for male and female hormones including estrogen, progesterone, testosterone and DHEA.
These tests are done on saliva in the privacy of your own home.
Convenience: requires no blood draws, therefore no repeated clinic visits and avoids the inconvenience of the 24 hour urine collection.
Physiological Accuracy: research has demonstrated that the free hormone fraction predominates in saliva. Hormones can be found free or bound to protein. The free hormone fraction is very important to ascertain because it is the bioactive fraction that most significantly influences living cell

Metabolic Tests

|
Metabolic Tests from Genova Diagnostics
Identifying the cause of chronic illness is the first step toward achieving a favorable outcome. Integrative clinicians rely on the Organix Profile by Metametrix to reveal the nutritional and metabolic basis of patient symptoms, just as traditional practitioners might use a serum chemistry to establish a diagnostic baseline. The Organix Profile provides a view into the body and its cellular metabolic processes and the efficiency of metabolic function. Identifying metabolic blocks that can be treated nutritionally allows individual tailoring of interventions that maximize patient responses and lead to improved patient outcomes.

Heavy Metal Tests

Heavy Metal Tests
We also highly suggest you test the levels of heavy metals in your body before and after doing a metal detox program. The first test will give you a baseline and the following tests will show your progress.
We offer the Fecal Metal Test for from Doctors Data; the Tissue Mineral Analysis from Endo-Met Labs and the Toxic Element Clearance Test from Genova Diagnostics. We send you the test kit. You complete the test and send the sample in the provided mailer to the lab. Results will be sent to you when they arrive.
The different tests show the different avenues of metal excretion. We generally recommend doing one or more of the tests at the beginning. In our office we do the Toxic Element C

Infection/Parasite/Yeast Tests

|
Infection/Parasite/Yeast Tests
Testing at Genova Diagnostic Labs as well as other labs indicate that many of us have intestinal parasites. These can vary from microscopic, so that we cannot see them, to large worms. In addition is the intestinal dysbiosis caused by use of antibiotics, poor diets and exposure. This may be a far more common problem that was suspected. If you suspect parasites we recommend the Comprehensive Parasitology test by Genova Diagnostic Labs as one of the foremost testing labs.

Food Allergy & Gluten Sensitivity Tests

|
Food Allergy and Gluten Sensitivity Tests
Researchers estimate that at least 60% of the U.S. population suffers from unsuspected food reactions that can cause or complicate health problems. Symptoms can be extraordinarily diverse, ranging from arthritis to eczema to migraines. For that reason, many health professionals routinely consider food allergies or intolerances when evaluating a patients health problem
